African countries are quietly getting into bio-fuels. Non-edible plants like Jatropa are being looked at because they don't stifle the food supply. Rueters is reporting that state-owned Mozambican Petroleum Co. (PETROMOC) on Thursday unveiled a $550 million bio-fuels project aimed at easing an energy crunch in the fast-growing southern African nation.
In an interview with Reuters, Eugenio Silva, a senior PETROMOC official, said it would create about 800 jobs and lead to a maximum annual production of 226 million litres of ethanol and bio-diesel seven years after start-up.
