Komaza - African microforestry, income-generating tree farms

From Site:

We partner with dryland famers to help them plant drought-resistant trees on unproductive land. They get seedlings and tools on credit plus training, post-harvest processing and access to new markets. We spend less than $1 to plant a tree. And each tree returns at least $20 to the family. That’s over $6,000 from half an acre.
Farmers rise out of poverty. The trees restore the environment and prevent deforestation. And each tree farm yields enough extra money to start nine new farms. KOMAZA will be able to achieve self-funded growth to more families.

http://www.afsta.org/images/afsta_text.gif
From Site:
The African Seed Trade Association arose out of a need to have a regional representative body for the seed industry, which could also serve to promote the development of private seed enterprises.

Objectives
  • To promote the use of improved quality seed,
  • To strengthen communication with African seed industries and with the world,
  • To facilitate establishment of national seed trade associations in Africa,
  • To provide information to members,
  • To interact with regional governments and NGO's involved in seed activities in order to promote the interests of the seed industry,
  • To promote activities that lead to regulatory harmonization throughout Africa to facilitate movement of seed, and
  • To develop a statistical database on African seed production and trade.
