International Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Journalism (PenPlusBytes) is a registered company limited by guarantee since 18th July 2001. PenPlusBytes seeks to empower the media through the use of ICTs to advance the work of journalism. It consists of a network of media organizations and journalists interested in using ICTs effectively to advance the course of journalism. We have trained over 100 journalists from various parts of Africa and across the globe in cutting edge new media technologies and contemporary ICT issues.

A ‘capacity crisis’ is a mild expression to describe the skill levels and understanding of information and communications technologies (ICTs) within small-to-medium enterprises in Africa. Ungana-Afrika is addressing this reality today by building innovative ICT programs and tools for the development community, and its service providers. Our mission is to empower development organisations to better integrate ICTs as a strategic, mission focused, tool.

Kenya ICT Board


The Kenya ICT Board was established by HE President Mwai Kibaki, as a state corporation under the State Corporations Act Cap. 446 on 19th February 2007.

The achievement of an information-based society is one of the main priorities of the Government towards the realisation of national development goals and objectives for wealth and employment creation.ICT is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. Harnessing of ICTs will therefore help the Government to realize a number of its key public policy objectives.

In general, ICT will contribute significantly to the process by improving government operations as outlined in the e-government strategy.

ICT and the BPO Industry in Kenya

Business Process Outsourcing is an emerging industry in Africa. This film looks at the various issues and opportunities facing the BPO sector in Kenya from the perspectives of one of Kenya's BPO CEO and three young women entrepreneurs who created a BPO start-up. A pressing challenge affecting the competitiveness of Africa's BPO companies is the cost of high speed connectivity.

The World Bank's US$424 million Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (RCIP) aims to address this issue by extending access to affordable high speed connectivity to as many as 25 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

ITU Telecom presents Africa 2008 - Cairo, Egypt

ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2008 is a major networking platform for Africa's top ICT names to come together and focus on core issues relating to ICT expansion across the region. From 12 - 15 May 2008, AFRICA 2008 populates the Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Centre (CICC) in Cairo, Egypt.

ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2008 encompasses an Exhibition featuring the latest technologies and innovations, and an extensive Forum that explores key technologies, policies and applications driving Africa's ICT sector. Participants can take part in a variety of ways; from a booth on the showfloor to sponsorship of a networking function or high profile item.
