Research ICT Africa

Research ICT Africa seeks to fulfil a strategic gap in the development of a sustainable information society and knowledge economy on the African continent by building information communication technology (ICT) policy and regulatory research capacity in Africa needed to inform effective governance.

Research ICT Africa! is hosted by the Edge Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa. RIA! is divided into three regions-Southern Africa, East Africa and West Africa regions. The manager for the West African region is Dr Olivier Nana Nzepa while Dr Lishan Adam is the East Africa regional manager. The North Africa region is in the final stages of being set up. Professor Alison Gillwald is Research ICT Africa! Director.

ITU Telecom presents Africa 2008 - Cairo, Egypt

ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2008 is a major networking platform for Africa's top ICT names to come together and focus on core issues relating to ICT expansion across the region. From 12 - 15 May 2008, AFRICA 2008 populates the Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Centre (CICC) in Cairo, Egypt.

ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2008 encompasses an Exhibition featuring the latest technologies and innovations, and an extensive Forum that explores key technologies, policies and applications driving Africa's ICT sector. Participants can take part in a variety of ways; from a booth on the showfloor to sponsorship of a networking function or high profile item. Paradigm Initiative - ICT for socio-economic opportunities in Nigeria

Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN), which started as on online volunteer team with the main objective of connecting Nigerian youths with ICT opportunities, is a social enterprise seeking to help deliver ICT for socio-economic opportunities in Nigeria.

Having worked with government, civil society, private institutions and international organisations, PIN has set standards in ICT education, telecentre support, ICT applications in rural areas, and other ICT4D interventions in Nigeria.

PIN provides five key services: Consulting, ICT Capacity Building, Research, Telecentre Support and Youth-led Social Technopreneurship. Through these services, PIN connects individuals, people-groups, institutions and communities with the socio-economic opportunities that ICTs provide.

ICTPark.com represents a consortium of local, regional, and global organizations working together to make Kenya a BPO hub in Africa. The Kenyan government has been proactive and vocal with their plans of making Kenya an ICT/Outsourcing destination.

One initiative, ICTPark.com and its consortium members will provide the following services to start and/or support call centres and back-offices in Kenya:

• Templates for preparing business plans.
• Information and assistance with finances.
• Guidance on suitability of premises.
• Advice on equipment and connectivity.
• Referrals to consultants, lawyers, auditors, and other professionals.
• Networking with ICT suppliers and other vendors.
• Introduction to research and technology expertise.
• Guidance on staff recruitment and training.
• Advice on securing outsourcing contracts.

Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE)

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE), Ghana's first Advanced Information Technology Institute works to stimulate the growth of the ICT Sector in ECOWAS. Established in 2003, through a partnership between the Government of Ghana and the Government of India, this state-of the-art facility provides a dynamic environment for innovation, teaching and learning as well as practical research on the application of ICT4D in Africa.
